#12102, "Newport reports"

Date: 5-15-04

Launch and Return: launched about 6:30am, in at 11am

Totals: 9 legals, 6 shorts. Mostly sand bass to 3lbs. One 2+ calico from the eel grass. Short WSB.

Baits: beavertail on Drop-shot. T-rigged Shaker. 1 1/2oz Revenge w/silver willows, whit/chart. Shaker (mint back, clear w/ blue and hologram belly and Orange Flash) dragged through the grass and around moored boats did best for first couple hours. Blade did best later on in the channel, it took all my better fish.

Scent: my original scent

Conditions: Water was slightly off-color with little movement most of the morning. Temp about 65ยบ. Clouds burned off early. Breezy at first, windy after maybe 8am. Wind out of SW.

Special Comments: This was the free FKP Fishing, so I got to meet some new guys. We all had a good time, and the free BBQ and raffle (w/cash prizess) afterwards was great. I did manage to throw out my back yet again, while moving the S.S. Cabo back to my truck (see next report).

Areas fished: Triangle off USCG dock, Pavilion channel, main channel to marker.

Date: 5-22-04

Launch and Return: launched around 7am, back in at 9.

Totals: 3 legals, 3 shorts. All sandies, to 2lbs.

Baits: Drop-shotting Orange Flash beavertails was the ticket. No love on the blade or cranks.

Scent: mine if I used any

Conditions: Same as last week, but maybe clearer water.

Special Comments: Met and fished with Michael. His goal was to get a legal 'but. He eventually got one. Since my back was in a very precarious state I only fished for 2hrs. Just enough time to test fish a Malibu Kayak Extreme. Well after fishing I went to M.K. and bought/traded my Cabo for an Extreme fitted with both rectangular hatches and 2 flushmounts.

Areas fished: Same as last week.
