Date: 6-19-04
Launch and Return: 6:30am from Baby's beach, fished Capo Beach, back in about 12.
Totals: 14 legals, lots O' shorts
Baits: Assalt 5" Salt Shakers in Watermelon w/red flake, amber w/red flake and 5" Ringer Worms in pumpkin pepper. 5" Big Hammers in Purple Herring, Halloween, and Rainbow Trout. Kalin 5" grubs in clear w/black flake.
Scent: N/A
Conditions: strong SW wind all morning, but mellowed a tiny bit around 10:30. Drizzle off and on. Water was 68ยบ, green stain, with a decent uphill current (stopped around 8). Tide was going high, but only about 2.5'.
Special Comments: Started fishing 1/4 mile off the river mouth. Started a slow pick as I worked my way south fishing misc. hard bottom and kelp as I came across it. Got a solid 3lb calico pretty quick and some shorts and 13"ers. Used a 1/2oz Sled Head with Salt Shakers, fish were from top to bottom, on the grind and on the fall. Found a nice hump off Capo beach and pretty much stayed around it all morning. As it was, I had a 2.5 mile paddle in heavy chop and an almost headwind. Wind made the drifts quick and long, even with my chute out. Kept a similar drift all morning; paddle out drift in, focusing on high spots and the drop-offs around them. Had a good pick (including some 2+ calicos) going until the current dropped off. Then it got really tuff. Purple Herring got a few of the bigger calicos. Lots of little sandies around, so the shorts tend towards really short. But, eventually not swinging on the aggressive little hits eliminated that problem.
Areas fished: Outside Doheny to just past Hole-in-the-Fence.
Amish Ed You can't catch it again if it's dead!
