I used a hi/lo setup (size 6 baitholder hooks) with a 2 oz pyramid sinker on 12 pound p-line which is really too heavy...unless I hook up something big. If fishing the rocks off Laguna, I would suggest using as light of weight as possible (to prevent snags) and small baitholder hooks(size 6 work well). A hi/lo would work, but you will snag more. Due to this I normally use a split-shot crimped about a foot and a half above my hook with a small sliding sinker above that. Small pieces of bait work best for most of the reef fishes...the calico's will hit the halved or even whole chovies.
