#14427, "July 12, 2007 - Capitola"

Launched my kickboat at New Brighton Thursday morning in search of halibut. Conditions were calm and flat, but the water was murky and full of chopped seaweed near the shore. No bait activity at all.

We found plenty of halibut close to shore, but all small. I landed 4 around 16-20 inches within 100 feet of the beach on 5" big hammers. We also searched the deeper water, hoping for something bigger without any action. Once you get a couple hundred yards out the water clears up nicely, though.

From what I hear, the better halibut action is further north by Santa Cruz. Next time...

Nico
