#14515, "CBBBS Hoopnight Limits 1/7"

After several cancelations for various reason’s (mostly weather) things finally came together & it was time for me to fullfil my promise to take the winner of the Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters La Paz fundraising tourney out for a night of hoopnetting. Tuomas barely edged out a tight field in La Paz with a consistent catch of larger dorado topped off by a quality wahoo on day 2. Lucky for me Tuomas & his fiance Carrie are an energetic couple that was very into learning the procedure while enjoying the hooping experience.

I was a little concerned about the wind but was trusting the forecast, concern almost turned to panic as we cleared the breakwall. The slop was more than I was willing to subject my guest to so we opted to tuck in behind the wall while hoping the wind would switch directions which it eventually did. Bryan (Bowlboy) & Mike Ramirez were buddy boating with us in Brian's 22 Century so he opted to be the guinea pig, sticking his nose out first once the sun went down in spectacular fashion.

The evening evolved into a beautiful night with a large residual swell to kick things up but plenty of time between rollers.

It took a little while & several moves but we finally found a little area seriously crawling with many of the nets yielding triples. Both Carrie & Tuomas got to experience pulling up their first lobsters, all sorts of crabs, starfish, a swellshark & a 6 lb cabezon with a 3.5 lb. bug locked onto it’s back? We finished our 3 person limit on the first net of the last set & had pulled around of 30 bugs by the time we cleaned up the nets. Bryan & Mike finished up their limits with the same set as well rounding out limits for 5.

Turned out to be an outstanding evening with great people enjoying what CA has to offer. Anyone who’s been hooping knows how much work it is but Tuomas & Carrie jumped in with both feet, taking on every aspect. Now they reap the rewards.
