Skipped school today and headed out to Trancas. Launched before it got light, that was sorta scary. I casted the Rat-L-Trap in shallow for a little while, than moved out deep. Out in about 40 feet of water I caught a sandy and two calicos with numerous farmed bites(even with the trebles!) so at least I know the Rat-L-Trap works. I was surprised how loud the rattleing is. You could hear it before you could see it on the retrieve. I also had two halibut and a johnny bass examine the lure and then dart away when it got close to the kayak. Headed back in after an hour or so and caught 3 more calicos, a cabezon and two short flatties on sardine FTs. The water was pretty murky with a lot of sand crab shells and there were a bunch of dolphins out too. An OK day but my first legal halibut of this year remains elusive. Tight Lines, Tommy
