#4070, "November 23, SB CalicoHunter II"

Rob and I met Larry at the harbor this morning at 6. We headed to the one mile in pretty sloppy conditions and maybe picked a couple. After a few drifts we headed down to Horseshoe Rock and picked up a few more. Mostly sand burglars with a couple calicos mixed in. Made another move to horseshoe kelp shortly afterward where we continued on a slow but steady pick. Somewhere in there I hooked the big fish of the day, a 4.25# sandie. Fish ate a 5" "pissed off squid", aka squid, colored big hammer in the middle of the water column on a straight grind. Most fish were regular though, biting on the sink or on the bottom. We ended the day back up at the one mile checking out some new rocks, and then heading over to Ledbetter. We got a couple decent drifts on Ledbetter to pick up some little sandies to help the cause. We ended up filling out our limits at Ledbetter. We did get 30 fish for the 3 of us, but it literally took all day (I got the 30th fish at 3:00 or so, and we headed for the barn). Rob even got a littel sandie on a spider jig which was cool. Never went wide but we picked up fish fairly consistently all day. Always fun fishin with Larry no matter how many fish we harrass. I think me and Rob both ended up with something like 7 or 8 fish or something while Larry picked up the slack to fill out limits (it's not fair, he fishes three rods... ;-)). Colors were silver sardine, clear/red flake, rock crab, and christmas tree (it's so great how that's a winter color...). The only bad part about fishing with Larry (well, not the only bad thing, but we won't get into that...) is that when you catch a limit of bass on plastic on his boat, but it takes all day, you feel like it was slow cause you expect to slay. If you caught a limit of bass on plastic just about anywhere else you'd be super stoked. Oh well, I think I can deal with it... As always, thanks to Larry for having us out. Rob took many many pictures throughout the course of the day in order to make a dent in his disposable camera's film, so be sure to harrass him about developing it, scanning em and posting pics.
