#6404, "Dana Point, 6-8-02"

Being slightly in detox and needing a more than an incidental calico, I hit DP sat moring. I fought a nasty southwind out to the point, caught 7 nice bass and one short. Wind was way too strong, though it did have the right direction for drifting along the kelp line. Lots of big bass eating up the redcrabs creating quite a show.

My best was only a 3, maybe 3.5 sandy (all the rest were plaids). But, 4 of the other 7 legals were over 2 so it was a decent average. Best bait by far was the Edhog in clear w/ red, gold, green (I was later told, damn the color blindness), and black flake; Just a little of each. Fished 'em on a goldish green
handpainted Owner sledhead. Best action came when casting right at the edge of the kelp, if it wasn't hit within 5' it wasn't going to be.

All fish but the short came out of the same section of kelp in about 1 hrs time. I then paddled through (gotta love the yak) to a deeper section that didn't produce. Hit San Juan Rock for a couple misses. Hit the inside section of kelp for the short. Then decided it was too windy, and if I didn't head back I might never make it back (against the wind going back too). I did finish up in the harbor fo a few missed, and one huge ass queenfish.

Sunday left me sore, back spasming, and just plain dead. So, I think I'll do it again as soon as I can.
