#698, "aug 15th SB Harbor Report"

Fished from 6 till 9 pm. TONS of bait in the harbor. Big sardines, and 12 inch mackerel. Nothing else. My friend put on the bait catcher, and was instantly filling all five hooks. I took my spare rod and rigged a dine with a slider. I dragged it all over the harbor, in the vicinity of the bait dock for only one scratch. I wonder if there is too much bait in the harbor. I would have expected more than one little scratch in over two hours of soaking. BTW, that little dine stayed alive for most of that time. Much hardier than the bait from the bait dock. Surprising difference in the liveliness of the bait.

The water has cleared up to a nice green, no red tide to note, and the phosphoresence seemed to be a little weaker. I am not sure if this is due to the full moon (more light) or the fact that the biolume-plankton are being eaten by the big schools of dines in the harbor.

I have caught all my WSB, in the vicinity of the bait dock, but did get two on the marina one side of the main channel. Anyone else getting fish elsewhere in the harbor? I fished the sandbar two or three times pretty hard, and got nothing, yet have heard of fish coming from there.

Harbor patrol reports that seabass have been stacked like firewood, under the light at the marina 1 gate. I went there last night after fishing the bait dock, lots of bait miling around, but aparently the fish show up after 11. Makes sense, lots of foot traffic, I can't see the fish hanging around with the gate opening and closeing, and people walking by.

Rumour has it that a salmon was caught in the harbor last week, heard it from the game warden. Anyone know any thing about this?

Guys, make sure you are legal, ie. if you are in a kayak, have a life vest. If you fish the gray, have a flash light. Harbor patrol picked up the new warden and he came and checked us for licences the other night.

Tight lines...
