Enough bass fishing! Its time for me to start fishing the salt again. Launched at Topanga through some moderate 1-3 ft. surf. I didn't even waste my time in shallow and fished off of the point in 20-40ft. of water. The water is still cold and dirty but the good news is there's a lot of bait in shallow which accounted for a little improvement in the fishing. Birds were diving all over the place in the morning. I caught 14 bass, 8 being legal up to 2.5# (sand bass) and two short halibut to 19". I caught all of my fish on 5" Sardine Big Hammers and 4" Green Sardine Fish Traps. For a while the wind was so bad that I could hardly fish, so I deadsticked a swimbait with one rod while retrieving with the other rod. This technique worked pretty well, especially for the calicos. Here's a picture of one of the calicos, I had to take a picture of something!
