Hey Kickenbass,
I have had the opportunity to use both the Big hammer and AA’s brand baits. And I have found the 3” (clear w/red fleck and chartreuse and green) curly tail grubs effective in catching fish in the bays. Sadly I have not had much success fishing swim baits in my local bay (Newport) and thus usually fish grub style baits there. I often use the BH 3” swim baits while surf fishing and probability use an average of 10-15 baits per week. Although I have been recently targeting halibut, I have indecently caught many other species while using these baits. In the last month I have caught several species using the BH 3” swim baits (Halibut, corbina, barred perch, rubber lip perch, sand bass, calico bass, yellow fin crocker ) while fishing the surf. While I usually make BH my bait of choice, I do have a concern with their multicolored BH 3” baits; I have found them on occasion to make a longitudinal separation at the front edge of the bait where the two colors meet. Has any one experienced this problem and is it possible to repair broken swim bait? While both brands will catch fish you need to find the baits that will work for the targeted species in your local habitat.
:-)
