I've only been into fishing fairly seriously now about 9 or 10 months. So far I've hooked up with two really decent fighters-that I assume had some good heft to them, and were lmb's- which I failed to land. Both times I was using #1 Gammies. I had them on for no more than a minute before losing them. They were taking line like crazy, pulling like freight trains, in open water, and they never surfaced. I tightened up my drag and then promptly lost them in both cases. Do you think it was the hook or the drag situation that caused me to lose these fish. Now I always use a 1/0 or bigger hook if I can and the next time I hook up with one of these hawgs I plan on keeping my hands off the dang drag. Any feed back you can give me on this would be helpful. BTW-I start vacation Friday so I plan on doing a lot of practicing and I hope to fish for more than just bass. I'm hoping to go after trout, salmon, halibut, rockfish, and tuna before the summer is over.
