#6595, "6/25/05--Matt's Baby Bass--Bass--No Trophy..but..."

Overcast skies with rain drops ever so often, 85 degrees, wind off-n-on, clear water at the swamp pond today.

I started out throwing a new Crappie swimbait I bought from www.mattlures.com and received yesterday. No bites so I threw a black spinnerbait and had a short hook-up as she hit it just as it touched down and I did not get a good hookset even with a trailer hook on.

An hour goes by and I get a bite on FnF's Sinkin.-Fool but she wrapped me around a stump and the wind blew the boat around and away from the Bass---I lost it too.

I swapped out the Crappie for one of Matt's soon-to-be-released Baby Bass swimbaits that he was kind enough to let me try out. Now, I've never gotten a "swimbait" bite much less landed one in the swamp pond---up until today.

On the third cast of the Baby Bass, I felt what may have been a half-hearted bite and I kept reelin' it in. Then I felt a definite bite and I set the hooks into my first swamp pond swimbait Bass! She was only a 2 lb, 6 ouncer but I'll take her. The entire bait was in her mouth. No, it's no "Trophy" Bass but I though y'all might like to see swimbait Bassin' down here in Georgia. Hope to get my "Trophy" soon.

Any of y'all that have been thinking about trying your first swimbait might want to consider one of Matt's Baby Bass. They are smaller and lighter in weight than the typical swimbait. All I do is throw it out there, let it sink for a second or two and then just reel it back in a steady beat---nothing fancy about it. I have to slow my reeling down but that's not a bad thing to do.
