#18283, "Float tubing and seals"

Has anyone ever had problems with curious seals or sharks? A friend was in Newport Harbor recently and had a seal come up right in front of him and put it's front flippers right on his float tube! Mike let out a yell and the seal took off.
Another guy I spoke with said he was tubing out off some rock islands off Laguna Beach for Calicos as it was getting dark and saw a huge Great White Shark swim by him about 15 feet down. Talk about feeling helpless with your legs dangling down and the shore being 150 yards away! Needless to say he made it back to shore by slowly kicking his way in. He was freaked! We tell him that he just saw a seal or a dolphin, but he insists it was a huge fat Great White. He won't go out there anymore even though bass fishing can be excellent. Anyone else have any scary "close encounters"?

Replica Jeff
