Mr. Fred & I went to Clear Lake on Sunday. We fished out of Lucerne & Nice under beautiful sunny skies, with very calm conditions. Water temp was 54 in the early AM, warming to 60 by the time we left at 3:30. We caught 15 bass between us, plus a (bonus?) catfish that was foul-hooked on a crank. Our best five went somewhere in the 15 - 17 lb range, with Fred getting a couple of nice 4-lb class fish on shad pattern rattletraps.

The main interesting thing for me was the general lack of weeds. Couldn't find the nice, leafy weedbeds that seem to often hold good fish @ Clear Lake in the fall. The funny thing was, Fred & I were fishing the area just outside the Lucerne launch ramp with a lot of the long, stringy weeds that I usually hate. I was just telling him that they don't hold fish when he caught a 4 lb'er. He caught another good fish a short time later from the same stuff. So, maybe the disappearance of the hydrilla has drawn the fish into that stringy junk.

We tried jerkbaits without success. Seemed to be mostly a rattletrap/crankbait/dropshot bite.
