I came into this event with very little expectations. All I wanted was to catch 5 fish and get points for the state championship. Since i hadnt been on this lake in about 10 years I felt it was important to get time on the water Saturday the day before the event. Saturday morning Tim and I were on the road by 6am and on the water a lil before 10am. We launched at the spillway and headed over to bidwell for nothing, then off to mcabee cove for nothing. I through the hell out of the silver buddy and dropshot for nothing. We then decided to go for a run up the middle arm and the only area I know on the lake that held fish 10 years ago. We fish this 50yd area, me with the silver buddy and Tim with a darter head worm and finally he picks up a 1.5lb type spot then a few minutes later a dink largemouth then a 2lb class spot. I catch one and loose one and we decide to head towards the ramp and look for more water. We find none.
Sunday after the draw I find out I will be fishing alone. I didn't hear my boat# so decided to just go out last not being excited about the 15 minute boat ride at 72mph at 6:45 in the morning. I arrive at the spot a little after 7am. I make the 1st past with a silver buddy for nothing. Next pass I fish the Keeper O82 4" worm on a darterhead and get 2 keeper spots. Next pass I catch 2 more and had a small limit by about 8:45. Tim and his partner arrive at the area at about 10am and tell me they hadn't even got bit yet but it wasn't long before Tim had a couple in the boat. From then until about 2:00 I started catching the crap out of them but can only cull oz's here and there. I ended up catching about 20 keepers in this spot. With a little time left I work the wood at the end of the creek trying for a lucky largemouth, no love. I ended up with 7.51lbs and good enough for 4th place and 102points. I caught a ton of fish and had a great time if you haven't fished a BASS Federation event your missing out on a good time. Next event for me Feb. 27th Berryessa :)
Tournament conditions: 6-8ft vis. 46-48 deg. temp post frontal with a cold breeze out of the north.
