Tournament fishing over the last 20 years has been primarily a numbers game with smaller fish on a consistant basis (and still is). For Byron, he's spent the last 10 years fishing bigger baits perfecting the approach of catching numbers of large fish using big game salt water techniques in fresh water reservoirs.
If it wasn't for his record setting tournament win at Clear Lake in a BASS tournament, I don't think the world of big bait fishing would have gone mainstream.
