#19576, "Delta report 3/28"

Mike and I decided to fish the tourney the middle of last week so we didn`t have a chance to pre-fish at all.We figured we would just launch at louis park and see what happens but we brought the livewell just in case. When we got there and saw this place I had no confidence in doing well there so then I suggested we go to disco bay.I knew there would be spawners in the disco sloughs but I thought the pre-spawn and post spawners outside of disco bay(indian slough I believe its called)would be easier to catch.
Got on the water about 6:20 and headed straight for the wreck thinking the tide is perfect for the blade.0nce I got there I made about 5 casts with my trusty war eagle spinnerbait and bam! fish on.Carefully worked him out of the wreck and into my net about a 4#.Cool,the monkeys off my back but then again same thing happened the week before at the highland tourney and I didn`t get touched the rest of the day so I knew I had some work to do.I worked the wreck for a little while longer then moved to a big flat with alot of weeds by the little tule island and picked up 2 more one going around 3# the other about a 1.8# on the blade.
I worked my way around the island flipping a zipper and blading untill I got back to the wreck again, once I got there I started slowrolling the wareagle just over the edge of the grass and picked up 2 more right at the end of my retrieve. Both these suckers hit with probably 8feet of line out,saw the whole thing with the costa del mars on it was brutal!these fish were aggressive, one was about 3# the other 2#I was feeling pretty good,a limit by 7:30 and alot of time to improve the weight.I found an opening to get within the small tule island and started slow rolling again,a few casts later I caught another keeper only 1.5# so I let him go.Picked up my jig flipping stick and started to work the inside of these tules and picked up another about 2# so I culled the 1.8#.The tide started to peak right about now so I worked my way around the bigger tule island to kill some time for the outgoing tide and started pitching a 5 inch senko and caught another keeper but not big enough to cull.Got back to the wreck and casted my senko in there,I let it sit there for a while then pulled it over some weeds and bam!2.5#.Cool culled one of the 2#.I`m feeling pretty good right now its close to noon and I have maybe 13.5# or so but I know I need a kicker to be a contender.
I went back to the little tule island and Mike was inside the opening at this point so I started to work the outside. He then bladed a 3.5# out of there which was cool to watch, then he dropshoted one about 5 minute after that.I started my way around the outside again pitching the senko and picked up another small one,put on a fresh senko hosed it down with some bang and went back to pitching.About 5 ft down the tules I got a subtle hit and set the hook and the fish pulled some drag as I set and I knew it was a good one.I kicked my self away from the tules so she wouldn`t wrap me up and netted her quickly there after 7.9#.Satisfied for the most part at this point I went to where we launched and fished there letting Mike have it all to himself for the last hour or so and he caught one more and lost another I believe. After struggling most of this spring the confidence level was at a serious low I needed a day like this to get my head straight again. It was good to see you b-n-ters again and I`ll cya at the Open at Clear Lake.
