#21829, "My Delta Open Report" Tue Jul-13-04 03:44 PM by FISH JC
Let me start by saying my days leading up to the Open tournament were nothing more than hell. Not referring to fishing but life in general. I get a call Thursday morning telling me my truck was missing from in front of my house.?. This compiled with shipping orders to Japan was a total nerve rack. Friday afterward doing the run a round with DMV, tow company, police dept. All just a bunch of @$%#^. Anyways after paying out close to $600. Dollars later 4:30PM in the afternoon Bass Cat and I were on the road to the Delta.
Day One Did not have any idea what kind of bite going other than try tossing a frog. Shortly after blast off I tried tossing a frog and spook with no love. Just didn’t seem right tossing top water. I decide to give go at drop shotting. Kind of funny for me to be drop shoting the delta. But when the fishing gets tuff you can bet I will be getting tougher. I worked a stretch of about 50 yards back and forth. Till I had a limit. Culled a few fish then headed to the weigh-ins. To my surprise I had the big fish of the day with a 3.61#er and heaviest bag of the day with 11something #s.
After the weigh-ins the festivities began with the casting contest. Then Bobby Barrack gave a great seminar on the Delta frog fishing. Then the raffle was really generous with its give aways. THANKS BNT
Day two Have to say Bobby got me motivate to try tossing the frog again and I did with no takers. Figurer I’ll go back and give try in drop shotting the same bank on where the day before provided fish. Managed to get a limit of very small dinks. Time went fast on Sunday for me. I don’t know what happen to my fifth fish on coming to the scales??? I put five in the bag to only weighed in four. Anyways things happen for a reason I guess.
All and all I had a great time and wish we ALL could get together and have more events like this one.
Congratulations To Doug Tyler on the win and all who participated. A great thanks to all the wonderful sponsors. A BIG THANKS goes out to John and Paul for pulling these tournaments together. By far the BEST out there! And another HUGH THANKS to the people at Beacon Harbor Matt and Berry. Who are first class in hospitality. Tin Crane Jr. Congrats on winning the casting contest (I’ll get you next year) Also a congrats on catching your personal best fish here in the Delta. You Delta Dog ;-)
