I camped with a big group at Clear Lake Fri - Sun. last weekend. We partied hard and fished the late morning and evening bites. Friday morning we caught multiple fish on black & red buzzbaits & frogs, largest going 6 lbs. Friday evening the bite was WFO (wide - open) with two six pounders and a topwater fish every 5 minutes.
Fishing was OK Saturday morning was OK with some 1 - 3 lb. fish on the frog & buzzbait, but our session was cut short with a text message from the campground "We're being kicked out of State Park, get back here ASAP). After packing up we headed for Lakeport and camped at Will-O-Point campground (1st street right next to TNT). This campground was SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was only a few other campers, and our site was right on the water. My friend tied his boat to a tree in our campsite... MUCH BETTER THAN STATE PARK.
Saturday night the bite was slow with 2 or 3 small fish on frogs. We went to the Lakeport rodeo which was a good time.
Sunday morning was slow with 3 or 4 fihs on frogs in Rodman slough.
We never used anything but topwater, and didn't fish the early morning bite, but it was a fantastic trip.
Attached is my personal best from Rock Slough last month. It hit like a ton of bricks, like someone dropped a bowling ball on the water! I will RARELY use anything but topwater during this time of year.
