I spent last weekend up at clear lake at M and M campground. The fishing was off the hook, I caught fish on nearly everything I tossed. On Friday I drove up early in the morning and decided that I wanted to go up to Rodman and see if the frog fish I caught last year were there again. Elliot, my partner in the scbbbc tourney last year at clearlake showed me a great spot and they were on the frog again, but not as aggressive as last year. Last year there was about a 200+yard stretch that was money, but I could only get them to go in a little 30 yard stretch this weekend, but it was all quality. I was 8 for 10 with blow ups to fish in the boat, they were eating it real good and the only fish that I missed on the frog gave a half ass attempt to eat it twice.
After a little while I decided to go get my campsite and fish down south. I went out for the late afternoon/evening bite and was able to get them on tule points and docks tossing a blade, crankbaits, and a eight inch black and red worm. Just a bunch of 2-3.5lbs fish.
On Saturday I went to state park and I tried to get some topwater going, but I couldn’t get a bite so I started flipping a beaver and other beavski type baits and was catching a bunch of fish in the tules. They were deep in the tules and on the edges of the tules, just about anywhere in the tules with some depth had the opportunity for a fish. I ended up catching a few real solid fish and a bunch of 3-4lbs fish and too many 1.5-2lbrs. Sunday I did the same as Saturday, but just didn’t stay very long, had to get going. Honestly if you had a bait in the water and were half awake you had a pretty good shot at catching a fish, it was just a sweet weekend at Clearlake.
