#42814, "4th of July Middle River Report"

So Joe and I met up at middle river saturday evening with intent to fish a little, but more so we could get an early jump on the day Sunday. I think this is the third year out of 4 that we've been there on the fourth, and we usually do fairly well. I remember two years ago Joe catchin a 7-01 i think it was off the barrier. We ran into Dave M on the water saturday eve too.

Sat eve was slow for me, I managed one keeper, and caught a catfish on drop shot. Joe went farther down the meat wall and was gettin em a little better, I think the best one of the day was high 3's Joe caught as it was gettin dark.

Sunday was a hot day on the water, but the tide was good. Low at 645, so we got the end of the outgoing and the incoming until we would get off the water around noonish(tide still comin up). We got on the water around 530. First spot I stopped at was a spot I stop at every outgoing/low tide before gettin to the barrier. First flip I had a good bite, and the first fish of the day was a 5-00 on the nose. Pics will show some crazy marking this fish has....gnarly lateral lines. We got to the barrier, and it was apparent the better fish were munchin. Joe hooked into two good fish, one being real good one, both resulting in break offs...we hit the barrier a little more then went up towards the first island.

After a little more water was movin right at the end of the outgoing tide we went back to the barrier before workin down towards the second island. We were sittin there b.s.ing and joe was debating a retie onto heavier gear as I threw up to the barrier. I felt a thump and my line was movin out deep. On the hookset I knew it was a better fish. "Good fish. This one feels better" I tell Joe. It comes up...I don't know exactly what was said but it sounded like grown men screamin like school girls. Instead of wrappin me in the docks she tried to come out deep. I told Joe "I might need your net" (mine has a 18 inch handle, his a 4 footer). Right when I say this the fish comes up just under my left pontoon and tries to go straight under the boat. M y net was in the water between my legs, I read her move and stuck the frabil crappie net straight down. She swam right in. Thought it was a 9+, but she was skinny post spawn and only went 7-11. Still my Delta P.B. We caught a handful more keepers the rest of the day, all in all a fun time.We got off the water at noon. I ended the day with 4 keepers for 15-12.

Hope to see you all at beacon.
Nate
