#46299, "Odds on Favorite for AOY"

I was inspired by this article written about the 2014 Bass Master Classic. http://www.bassmaster.com/2014-classic-odds-gallery .I just thought it would be fun to do the same type of thing for our club. In my opinion the odds on favorites to win 2014 AOY............

I'll start with the newest member to B-n-T, Bill Adkins a.k.a. “billadk“(15-1 odds). {All Time Kickboater Ranking: N/A}

As a new member I am not familiar with Bills fishing experience. I had a chance to speak with him at the meeting and at the 2013 TOC. I can say he is a confident individual who is eager to get on the water to learn, compete, and have fun. As far as AOY goes, Bill is going to have to be really lucky or really good. That kind of consistency is hard to find in a rookie season. After he gets accustomed to kick boat fishing he can do well in any of these tournaments with some well placed casts. On the bright side, Bills chances of winning rookie of the year is 1 to 1.….. For now!

Scott Rouhiereiehhheirrer a.k.a. “OLD MOSS BACK“ a.k.a. “Fink the Funk“ (6-1 odds) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 14}

Although Scott didn't fish with us last year, he looks to make a strong come back this season with a new kickboat. Scott has at least one AOY under his belt and multiple wins from years past. If his work schedule and life don’t get in the way for him, watch out for OLD MOSS BACK to be right in the thick of it at the end of the year. Mr. Rouhier has experience on all most every location that we will be at this year. So I think he has the potential to make multiple top 3’s and maybe take a win or 2. I think Scotts worst event this year will be in July @ Beacon. Besides one year long ago. Scotts pattern at this tournament is a strong day one, followed by flushing it all down the Port Hole on day 2!

John Lake a.k.a. “Lake” (3-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 5}

Lake hasn’t fished a full season with B-n-T for at least 5 years. So he is looking to pick up right where he left off, at the top of the leader board! What can I say, as the founder of Bass-n-Tubes, John has the experience and skill to win on any body of water he competes on. However, with the Broncos coming off a terrible SB loss and the effects of getting older, John might get off to a slow start at Naci, if all he throws is Cheetos! I think John is going to put together some strong performances this year, he’s going to be tough to beat.

Dave Ryle a.k.a. “swampy” a.k.a. “Mr. Wiggle Wart“ (10-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 24}

It hasn’t been since 2009 that Swampy has qualified for the TOCs. Now that he has moved to a house with more room for his boat, Dave is looking forward to making it to all the tournaments……Until football season starts again! I think Swampy might get off to a slow start this year due to him being a little rusty. But once the delta tournaments roll around and he is in his comfort zone is when he will be the most dangerous.

Dave Montiero a.k.a. “Fishcat” (10-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 26}

Dave is a 10+ year Bass-n-Tubes Vet. He is one of those guys who wants to fish every event, but his busy work schedule usually gets in the way. Fishcats last win came at Naci in 2009, so look for him to get off to a quick start. Dave has a lot of potential but not fishing a full year isn’t going to help win the AOY. I think he will place well at Naci, Hogan, and a few Delta events.

Steve Williams a.k.a. “LzyFsh” (10-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 64}

Steve’s ATKBR and his age are about the same, which makes him our oldest member. Mr. Willaims has been with the club for at least 14 years so he has the knowledge to catch fish on any body of water that he visits. LzyFsh doesn’t win a lot, however, he is known to bring a big fish to the scales a few times a year. I think he will have his best chances to win this year at New Hogan and Salt Valley Springs, due to him living so close and being able to pre fish.

Dan Balaba a.k.a. “dbalaba” (10-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 57}

Mr. Balaba finished in 10th in the AOY race last year. Dan is the definition of “Delta Rat”. He proved that last year with a win a Disco Bay. If he fishes the full season I think Dan can come on strong in the summer and fall months on the Delta. I’m not sure how he will adjust to fishing with light line at the end of the year at New Hogan, so I don’t think he has the best chances to win the AOY.

Rob Linden a.k.a. “RiverRob” a.k.a. “Baby Linden“ (5-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 6}

With 2 AOYs and multiple victories in years past, Rob is a 13 year Vet who can be dangerous on the Delta as well as Lakes. Linden only fished 5 tournaments last year but had two wins on the Delta. RiverRob is known to be seen dragging his boat up the side of levee half way through a tournament, on his way to Denny’s, if things don’t go his way. I think his best chances to place well next year will be March through August.

Chris Pochop a.k.a. “crawfish96” (8-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 106}

Don’t let his ATKBR ranking fool you. Chris has been in the club for two years and already has two wins under his belt. This could be his break through year for AOY now that he has more experience and confidence. Crawfish has been doing well at Delta tournaments, so if he has a couple top 3’s at the lakes we visit, he should be in the hunt at years end. I think Pochop’s strongest tournaments this year will come from the Delta and Naci.

Mitch Teman a.k.a. “mteman” (4-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 3}

As B-n-T’s president and a 14+ year Vet, Mr. Teman has done it all. Multiple wins, AOY titles, TOC champ, Classic champ, the only thing he hasn’t won is the B-n-T Open which he has his eye on this year. Mitch is a threat at every event he fishes, consistently making top 3’s. With his heavy campaigning this year for Salt Valley Springs and New Hogan, he will probably fish well. If he stays as consistent as he started last year, he will be tough to beat in 2014. I think through out the year but espesially at the Classic in September is when he will be the most dangerous.

Oscar Baeza a.k.a. “Bassboy” (6-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 117}

With first place points at Lake Berryessa last year Oscar showed off his best performance in 2013. Bassboy has a lot of experience on the Delta. But, as he proved at Berry last year he can grind out a tough bite on Lakes and bring back a winning bag. I think Mr. Baeza is well versed in all aspects of this sport and you can never count him out of any tourney. Watch for Oscar to have a strong start and finish this year with a couple of top 3’s along the way.

Steve Lynch a.k.a. “bassakwards” (5-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 66}

No wins last year but also no finishes lower than 6th, 2013 was a very consistent year for Mr. Lynch. I noticed a big boost in Steve’s competitive nature last year and I think he is going to fish well in 2014. Bassakwards needs to get off to a quick start and lock down a couple of wins this year if he wants a shot at AOY. I think Steve is dangerous at every lake, but his best chances to win will be at Naci., Salt Spring, and the Delta events.

Jeff Wilson a.k.a. “big daddy” (4-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 93}

With back to back wins to end last year I’m sure Jeff wants to pick up right where he left off.
Big daddy is a accurate way to describe the fish that Jeff brings to the scales. Having big fish on both days helped Mr. Wilson secure the win in the 2013 TOC’s. Jeff is going to have to start out as hot as he finished if he wants to beat Wayne, Taylor, and Robert in the AOY race. I think his strongest performances will be on the Delta this year.

Wayne Thomas a.k.a. “ BassHunter” (3-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 130}

2013 was Wayne’s best year with the club placing 3rd in the AOY race. Mr. Thomas is looking forward to repeating his performance last year with a couple of top 3’s in the mix. BassHunter needs a few key big fish if he wants to try and top Taylor or Robert this season. I think Wayne will be most effective at Salt Spring Valley and the Delta tournaments this year.

Taylor Capilla a.k.a. “FnB” a.k.a. “Pepito” (2-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 2}

If you can say you beat Taylor in a B-n-T tournament chances are you are you were in the top two. Outstanding doesn’t begin to describe how Pepito has fished since he joined B-n-T in 2006. Mr. Capilla has 6 AOY titles to prove that he can fish any time any where. If you want to win AOY next year you are going to have to beat Taylor plain and simple. I think he will be tough to beat at every event next year, so be prepared.

Robert Middleton a.k.a. “Robm478” (2-1) {All Time Kickboater Ranking: 34}

Three wins including the Open, only one finish outside the top 4, and the 2013 AOY, Robert straight up got it done last year! Middleton was in the mix in every event last year and you can look for him to have a similar 2014 season. If he stays in the top 3 as consistently as he did last year he’s going to be close to or at the top of the leader board for the 2014 AOY. I think Robert is going to follow up last years Open with another strong performance at this years Open. As well as putting out strong showings through out the year.

I did this all in good fun. I hope I didn’t offend any body. I took the Top Kickboat “Tournament” Points All Time Leaders from Mike Ayeres post, and used that as the All Time Kickboater Ranking (ATKBR). Also, for the most part, I used how people ended up in last years 2013 AOY race to assign odds for people.

So who is going to take the coveted 2014 AOY title? If you want to win AOY next year, you are going to need to do well at the Open and the Classic. As well as being consistently near the top of the leader through out the year. Good Luck to all our members and I can’t wait till Naci gets here!

See you on the water!
