#5203, "Santa Margarita float tubing rules"

I was tubing Margarita Saturday and was moving from the marina coves over to try the swimming pool coves. I was just going to kick around the main point over there when a ranger in a boat hollered at me through his bull horn that "those type of fishing vessels aren't allowed in the main channels" and told me to get back into the coves. One other time when I was BSing with a ranger and told him about my trip across the lake, he told me that I wasn't allowed across the lake but I'd be OK if I stayed within 50' of the shore. The rules aren't written down but they seem to change depending on what ranger you talk to.
I asked Dean at the marina and he said he thought that tubers were allowed anywhere, the lady at the entry booth said she thought within 50' of the shore was fine. I was talking to Pete at Wilderness Outfitters and he said that there is a young ranger out there that is making up his own rules. He even kicked out one tuber saying that they were not allowed at all. It took a visit to his boss to get things cleared up that day.
Maybe we should get them nailed down so there isn't a problem during the tournament? I would just hate to have a hassle with the rangers while we're trying to fish.
