#1044, "New to Los Angeles County-help?"

Hello everyone!
I'm a devoted fishing fanatic who has recently located to Los Angeles County and I have no idea where to start.

I have a preference for saltwater fishing, but I love freshwater fishing in streams and lakes as well, and I'm sure the saltwater fishing down here is a bit more cost prohibitive.

Is there any website, place, anywhere for me to go that you can recommend for me to get started? I don't even know where to go to get a license. Things were so much simpler in Oregon....

Thanks!

Well, there is certainly no lack of interest here in So. Cal. when it comes to fishing. Tell us a little about the specific kind of fishing you prefere and what city your in, and I can send you in the right direction for tackle, license, etc. Do you like the party boats, surf fishing, floattube/kickboating, or just off the rocks? I'm in Downey (about 12 mi. s/e of Los Angeles) and there is a nice selection of tackle and boating resources around me. You can also check out Allcoast Sportfishing Message board at: http://www.sport-fish-info.com/wwwboard/jun98x4.html.

Well, theres Castaic just up I-5 from you maybe 6 or 7 miles for largemouth bass and stripers. Or Lake Casitas, located west on 126. Or Pyramid.

Catch and keep trout? Castaic, maybe Bouquet canyon after a trout plant in the winter.

Off of Templin Highway, at the top of I-5 is Piru creek where it runs out of the bottom of Pyramid. Trout fishing, upper part is catch and release, ( mostly flyfishers) below Frenchmans flats is put and take. GEt a license at Sport Chalet in Stevenson Ranch or at Gallions (the Arco Station mini mart in Castaic)

That should get you started fishing here in SO CAL.

tight lines,

Randy van Vliet
