#173, "bass on big trout lures"

I haven't been here in a while but Rob's feature on his huge bass got me fired up to fish my big trouts at Irvine this AM. I made about five casts with my Castaic softy before I hit the lure on a rock on a back swing. This broke loose the diving lip which I fortunately saved for gluing back on. The bait wouldn't dive after that but swam on the surface as a makeshift topwater. Six feet from shore a bass came up and boiled on it but missed the lure--arrrggghhh! I also fished an Optimum swimbait but got nothing doing so. I did see three trout get whacked hard by some bass where I was fishing. I will be back.

You saw trout getting eaten by bass??? That is killer!!! That's the awesomest thing I've heard all day. Get yourself one of those 9" ms slammers, if that bass boiled on your crippled castaic trout, they would go nuts over that slammer kickin back and forth on the top.

Brian--do you know where I can get an MS slammer? Maybe a way to contact Mike?

Hey fongster
Glad to see you on the site ;-)
Sounds like the bass are stirring at Irvine, when are you going to get that 15 pounder and break the lake record ;-)
To order some slammers just give Mike Shaw a call at 805-466-8104 in the evening after 5:30 or 6pm. He was just working on a bunch of 9 inch so he should have some just about ready to ship out.

My roommate works at the aggregate material plant on Irvine Lake. He's got access to an entire section of the lake that nobody else does. He likes to fish, but hasn't tapped into Irvine Lake yet. Your post has got me psyched to go out there and chuck some big baits around. Unfortunately, this weekend, his plant is closed and we can't get access either. Whatever, I enjoyed the post on Irvine Lake.

Matt
