I have now heard of and/or seen 4 salmon caught near Santa Barbara Harbor. A couple of guys I know have caught three and I witnessed a kid catch one yesterday. They have ranged from 20 - 28 inches. At first we assumed they were Kings (Chinooks) but they have white mouths and kind of look dull and their jaws look slightly hooked (like the ones do when they just start up a river to spawn). They don't really look like steelhead but I've only seen steelhead in rivers and don't know if they look different. I have heard that Sockeye don't come down this far.

Anyone have any ideas about what kind of salmonoids these are?

Don't know much about Salmon either. But, we've seen two Silver Salmon caught in or around Dana Point Harbor last year. Maybe that's what they are?

Thanks guys. You reminded me that I have an Audobon Field Guide. From the description in the book it seems the fish are Coho Salmon.
