I was at lake Skinner today (1/11/03) and I saw something kinda interesting.
I was throwing a jerkbait by launch 2, and a cormorant flew over with something in his beak that did not look very fishy; it looked like a mouse. He landed on Cormorant rock, and began dipping the critter in the water to lube him up for the swallow. I pulled out the binocs to check it out. It was a kangeroo rat!!
Anyways, after about three or four dips, it went right down.
Should I report this to Al Gore?? ;)
Report: Sounded a bunch of arches off of the long, most western point between launches 1 and 2. Right off of the point, it drops to about 35 ft. (reading today, the lake is way low.) A little bit out from the bouy, there is a real nice hump with a flat on top at about 25 ft. Tons of fish there today. Don't know if they were large of mouth or striped, as we didn't drop the camera.
I was doing the "take a kid fishing thing today" (my son's friend. My son fishes better than I do), so we went dunking for trout, as I figured that was the best bet to hook a kid up on his first trip. I farmed one that looked about 3#(I was looking down for the damn backreel lever, It's been awhile since I've used the ultralight, and it was 2# test). Boated another at 1 1/2. Both on Rainbow glitter PB on 2-foot leaders. If anybody wants to know where, send an e-mail, and I'll share
