I'm planning to take my son to Castaic (main lake) this weekend. I've had a little success the past month with plastics, but nothing to write home about. Any suggestions?

Anyone else going to be there?

Went last thursday and caught a couple drop shotting. Also a couple on crankbaits including a 4.5lb striper. I also heard flukes are working well but I didn't have any luck with them. Then our luck changed as we were able to get some live shad. If you can get any live shad you'll have non-stop action.

You said you caught some shad. Were they all over or just happen to be there? I like to take my Father when the shad comes up. He has a ball with all the fish he catches. I have been waiting for the shad to return. Are they really up or just made a one day apperance? Any info will help.

They were in different parts of the lake but very sparse. I just spoke to my buddy who went up there today and he only found a small school and wasn't able to dip any. The schools aren't as thick as they usually are in the fall.

My Father and I are going to head up there tomarrow (6-3-05). Ill check the backs of coves. It would be nice if we get on a shad bite. Its a lot of fun, especialy for those who hate to wait for a crawdad of night crawler bite.
I think the weather change may have pushed them back down. Ill give you guys an up date when I return.

What kind of crankbaits were you using? Deep-running shad imitations...shallow...color? Appreciate the advice.

Thanks. Any specific area of the lake? I've been in Elizabeth the past two trips with limited success.

I fished it Friday. Got on the water aound 10:00 until they closed. Got one nice bass on a Senko. The shad were up but not as many as before. I think its to early for a shad bite. But the bass were bust'n on shad when they found them. I fished shad in the past, when they are up there isnt any other way to catch bass unless you tie on a shad. You can catch them on artificial baits but the shad will out number the fake baits. Ill be going up there today for Moon Light Maddness. Report yet to come.
