Hey everyone, I'm planning on making a trip up to the Los Banos resevoir within the next week or so. I've read up on it and heard that there are cats in the 30 pound range caught fairly regular on whole mackerel in coves. I was wondering if anyone has fished this resevoir and has any info on where in the water the large cats might be holding this time of year, and obviously when and where to catch them. I know typically about an hour to two hours after dusk the bite picks up, but that's just generally speaking on cats. I know from experience that waters vary. I don't have a boat, i'll be bank fishing, but I do have a five man raft with a trolling motor, so I can get to where I want in the lake. I could fish from it, but I don't like staying cooped up on it all night. But even the tiniest bit of info on this place would be greatly appreciated, even if it's not about the cats, or just smaller cats, like I said, ANY info is appreciated. Thanks. Hunter.
P.S.-the los banos game refuge was doing very well about three weeks ago but it seems like the bite has slowed down recently, but if you can stick it out through the wind, whole shad or half anchovies have been pulling 'em out the best lately.

If you stand on the dock, look to your left and you'll see the dam.Follow the shore line around to where it goes from dirt too rock for the dam. That was always a good spot for me.Also just around the corner from the swim beach(same side) there is a really long cove that is pretty good.Don't be afraid to try a slip rig with a bobber there for cats there either.....most that I caught weren't on the bottom during the evening. I think most people miss alot of cat fish because they only fish the bottom...especially if there is no current....Nathan www.Bettencourtbaits.com
