#11638, "Bridgeport Report"

Should have brought the Skies along with the fishing poles. Spent an extended weekend up in the Bridgeport area. Fished hard with only fair results. A couple of really good bites along with just a slow pick throughout the weekend. I think the Full moon really put the slow down on the Trout. We fished Lower Twin for ok results pretty slow with a handful of rainbows caught each day. Did see the bites go richter at dusk as the moonlight first hit the water. I think the fish were feeding heavy throughout the night based on the sundown bites. Biggest Rainbow was 19.5 inches.
We tried to fish Virginia but very difficult with the storm. The road was drivable up to the Trumbill campgroung entrance, then we had to hike the rest of the trail. Probably about 12-18 inches of snow on the ground. I am glad I grabbed my Sorrel's at the last minute. They saved my feet from freezing!! Tough fishing when water freezes on your eyelets. Wind so bad had the boomerang effect with the minijigs. Cast them out and have them land in the tree's behind you(hahaa). We still managed a couple of fish each along with a beautiful native Brook at about 12 inches with full spawn colors. All fish released!!

Didn't hear of any Trophy Browns caught. Heard of a roughly 3.5 Brown from Lower caught by a guy trolling. Also heard of a 5 or 5.5 out of the resivoir but that was about it. We paid our dues trolliong with no luck. I guess its kinda like chasing big bass, gotta pay your dues to get a big one. We had our best bite on the East Walker just below Bridgeport resivoir. We had about 12 Browns in a 3 hr period. Nothing real big but did have a couple at about 14 inches. All released of course
Many thanks to the guys that helped us get the boat out of Lower Twin. We had to shovel Snow off of the launch ramp to get the boat out. Also Red if you are reading this you are a good person, the Steaks were great and the extra tarps you gave us really helped!!
If anyone fishes the last few days good luck. The weather was clearing a bit as we were leaving any many of the locals are still predicting a big fish before the season close.

I have put some time in to targeting browns and there's no doubt in my mind that moon phase has a big impact on these fish. Much more so than rainbows. Like most fish which are sensitive to the moon phase they seem to bite best for me before and after a full moon. They are nocternal so the evening hours are ussually better and if you can fish them at night it's the best. I have seen them go wfo several times. During this time of the year I would concentrate my efforts on the rivers/ streams. Especially those which flow in to lakes which are known for producing large browns. The browns should be spawning right now so there should be a good number of bigger fish up in the rivers/ creeks for the spawn. The season will be closing here in a couple days for most waters up in that area right? Another season comes to an end.
