...no barn burner. Hit them ponds again tonight. Fished 3 hrs for 4 fish, one 6, 2 3's, and a 1. Missed quite a few too. All were caught on blackgrape Robo Zippers Texskinned w/ no weight. Threw them in the bare areas and just slowly wound them back. Tried my new Scumfrog, but not even a bump. Hopefully Bassnet and I can hit it together tomorrow night.

Amish Ed

p.s. Give me a call Chris, maybe we could hit it around 8pm? I have a party to go to around 10 or 11pm ( Brazillian parties start late).

Nice on the 6, Ed! You are probably killing it as I type this! Have fun at the party, I'm crashing out now, got a good tip for LMV, I'm dawn patrol tomorrow before work. I was doing the same thing, throwing a weedless weightless soft jerkbait over the matts, dropping it in the holes, but I bet at night it is way better- maybe Sunday night? Let me know! Chris

P.S.- how did that rod you were wrapping turn out, and what was it?

Killed it? No, got skunked. Fished 2.5 hrs from midnight on. Had a bunch of bites, but they were very soft. No aggression for the most part. I did dump 2, just couldn't sink the hook. Next time maybe. Sunday is a possibility, but we'll have to see. Give me a call sun. afternoon.

The rod I was working on was this IGSC 1088. It's 9'3", made by Pacbay for Seeker (discontinued a couple years ago). I'm wrapping this one to be my go to rod when fishing boilers, kelp, or any other time when I need quick hard pulling power. It's straight graphite, and has a nice smooth bend w/ lot's and lot's of backbone. Green w/ light blue spirals, fuji hardloys, corktape butt, Fuji reel seat w/ trigger, and hypalon foregrip. All that's left to be done is the Flexcoat, but that'll happen when I finish the one I started today. Graftec 80XL, same components as the 1088, but the thread is purple w/ green spirals.

Talk to you soon,

Amish Ed

Nice sticks!! I went out on the big pond today, we decided to try for some cod on a tip from Gundy. We got a late start, but managed some nice reds and a couple of big sculpin drifting between the hospital and Salt Creek in 300-500' of water. Never really fished the local cod before, it was kind of fun, made for a great dinner tonight! Pretty slow on the inside, the bass and halibut weren't too cooperative. Oh well- really nice day on the water, I'll be fishing the ponds this week, let me know when you are fishing! Chris

Leaving right now for the ponds, be there around 11pm. Nice work on the deep stuff. Personally, I hate deep water stuff, but I would like to try SWRF up in Morro sometime. I'll let youu know how I do tonight, maybe tomorrow night if I don't see you tonight. I'll be there at least two hours.

Update on the ponds? I was headed there after work tonight, but the surf picked up and I opted for that instead. I don't really like the deep stuff either, but it was cool for a change of pace. I used to work a 6 pack out of Diego were we would get excellent SWRF between Rosarito and Ensenada, plenty of big reds and salmon grouper, lots of lings up to and over 20 pounds in 100' of water, amazing down there. Also the best calico fishing I've ever seen, both for size and numbers. We had hash marks on the bait tank for legal size fish, and none of the passengers ever noticed the bass size was actually 15", we never told them and they went home happy. Wish they would have let them all go! I think I'll hit the ponds tomorrow, Ed, let me know if you will be around! Tight lines!

Oh ya, now your talking!! I think it would be really fun to organize a calfishing group trip, or chater if there is enough interest for some morro bay rock fish. Being so close, I would be able to make this one and keep you all updated on the conditions. Looks like this friday i am going to Virg's salmon fishing seminar with a friend to learn all the ropes about salmon fishing, which i have never done. I am planning on going salmon fishing in a little while, depending on when one of my connections gives me the OK. Until then, keep slaying the bass and writting detailed reports. I really think these boards are a great stress reliever!!!

Till Later,
Joel

To fish, or not to fish, what a stupid question!!

Well, can you say slump? 3 or 4 nights in a row w/out a fish. Not a bite tonight, from 11:15pm - 1:30am. Last time I bailed after one bite in 2 hrs, and hit the harbor. There I eventually found one sandy that was maybe 13". It reminded me of why I like the salt more than the fresh. That thing fought better than the 7s and 8 out of the ponds. I'm sure that bigger lakes have better fighting fish, but not that much. Maybe hit it friday after working at the shop, around 6pm for a quickie.

I'm surfing tomorrow, either Church's or O-side. Can't wait, I really need to do something relaxing, my final show is next week.

A Calfishing Charter would be cool, but I'd venture to say hard to organize. You up for it?

When it came down to it, I'm afraid there aren't enough people on this site who would show up. We tries something like this about a year ago, for a trip out of san diego or something like that. Not enough people. A 6 pack or something like that would work, or we could try it again and see what happens, but last time we didn't get enough interest.

Umm- it sucked- missed two dinks twitching a floating rap, that was about it- they should make a horror movie out of that moss, I can't believe how much has grown in just a week! I'd be nervous if I had one of those houses right on the lake!!
