#10832, "where to go........where to go"

Thanks for the help on the gear guys. Now can anyone tell me where`s been good this season for salmon? Possibly close to Sac., I`m heading up to visit family in a couple of weeks. Or, what else is good fishing right now on the delta area. Any tips would help.

Thanks, Kyle :+

I heard the Sacramento area is still pretty spotty for salmon due to warm water temperatures, but the few that are willing to put in the time are catching some bigguns. Resident stripers are also there; still, they are far and few in between. Trout and Blackbass? Unless people are exaggerating it's been pretty good. Catfishin' is very good right now on the Delta. The California Delta is HUGE so it's hard to say where they gon' be at. Try www.californiadelta.org. I find that their reports are pretty honest and accurate.

Some 6 years ago I fished the American River with a friend and the Salmon were hitting red plastic beads w/a red hook. The leader lines were about 3-6 feet long. It was about this time of year. You basically cast up-stream and keep a taught line until you feel a tick as you're presentation is going down-stream. Set the hook quick and HARD!!! I swear, I've seen Salmon up to 60 pounds caught this way in this river. They don't hold on to stuff very long so be fast. Make sure your hooks are barbless or be prepared to pay a hefty fine. And go early because it gets crowded fairly quickly.
