#12921, "2/27 Castaic-Lower Lagoon Shore fishing report"

Fished the Lower Lagoon today with Striker from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Winds were blowing pretty good with the current ripping pretty well. All the action took place on the boat dock. We were throwng 5" Big Hammer Prizm Rainbow Trout color with a 3/4 oz. chrome lead head. Caught my first bass 2 feet away from the shore. Nice 2 pounder. She was just hanging there out in the bushes. We also worked the beach a little but the current was ripping too hard, so we decided to leave at around 8:45. Walked by the boat dock and decided to work it for just for 30 mins, then head for Dennies. We saw 2 boils and I got hit on my second cast with the 5" Pizm Rainbow Trout Big Hammer again. This fish was bigger. At least 3 1/2- 4lbs. It inhaled the thing.
Some cops pulled in around 10:00. Checked for fishing licenses and informed us that the dock we were fishing on were off limits. Called it day and went for Dennies.
As for Striker, he got nice 10 pound + duck/bird kinda thing.:7

Check out the pics.

Hey Gimme, nice going on the fish, I was just curious whether or not they are allowing people to fish from the swimming beach because it is my understanding that they no longer allow swimming due to the lack of life guards. I was about to head up there this morning but I checked the web cam and it looked a bit too windy. See Ya

Way to go with the bass on the hammers!
So your buddy is a fellow duck fisherman. Was it a large mud hen-type with the white head? or your run of the mill mallard-type duck?
What did he catch it on? My latest was on a Pop-R :D

I found that it's actually called a "cormorant." Mean little sucker too. We had to cut the shank of the lead head because we weren't able to remove the the entire hook due to the barb. It was hooked in the mouth with a 5" Prizm Rainbow Trout Big Hammer
Later on, i was thinking how that thing can mistaken a big hammer from a real fish. I can understand if it's live bait, but a big hammer with a 1 oz. lead head on it?! Damn, i guess big hammers swims so well that even a bird can mistaken it as a fish.

Those cormorants love small trout. I see them feast on the shorties at Little Rock Reservoir.

I can't believe those birds are protected....I fish at Mission Viejo and those "cormies" crap all over docks like you wouldn't or couldn't imagine...on top of eating lot's of fish.
