Fished the Feather River last week with my cousin from fresno. Hooked up about two dozen times but only managed to pull in 5 fish. 3 of which was foulled hooked and quickly released back to the river. Biggest one was 25+ lb. Same story with my cousin but he only managed to bring in two. He lost a bigger one when it took him into the water. Almost looked like the scene from Lord of the Ring (Return of the King), when smeagals buddy got pulled in. :D :D :D

Nice fish. How many hours of fishing was that? What makes it so difficult to keep them on? Do you have to use barbless hooks? How much longer will the run last? Is the fishing on the American River as good? How exactly do you set up for fishing river run salmon-bounce some roe off the bottom? I'm seriously thinking of fishing the American soon as I have relatives that live right next to it. You can e-mail me if you like.

Sorry for the late response. We were fishing for about 8 hours. Got there around 6:30 am and left around 2:30pm. We were using the red salmon hooks. Nothing special just the one from Wal-mart, size 1/0. Not sure why so many hook-ups and not many brought in. I'm thinking maybe those were foul hooked. Too much pressure and the hook probably ripped through the skin. I'm not sure of fishing in the American River. Never fished there before. As for how long the run is, I'm not sure as I am an amateur there myself.

That's a nice photo of "The Outlet" on the Feather River. Looks like a typical day there too. That is one of the best places to get consistant hook-ups for some nice size salmon. Nice fish by the way! I went two years ago with my Dad and only landed two, one foul hooked and 4 hook-ups total. Attached is a picture of me and the fish. I was fishing from the opposite side of the outlet from where you are standing. Terry G.
