if you were allowed only three rods to fish for some reservior/pond bass in this weeks conditions from midafternoon till dusk and one couldn't be a big swimbait/trout rod, what would they be?

Just the basics.

Dropshot/splitshot rod- Small spinning reel with a light action rod and like 4-6 lb. test.

Senko/worm/ika rod- Medium or medium heavy extra fast action rod with 10-12 lb. test.

Jerk bait/ topwater rod- Medium or medium light moderate action with 8-10 lb. test.

Calico kid hit the nail on the head. Those are the best three set-ups for small ponds around here for sure.

for small ponds i just take a sedona 750fb with any appropriate rod and 4-6 lb test. keeps me very mobile :)
