I am planning a camping trip to the Modesto Resivour this weekend. I pulled in at least 25 fish a week and a half ago and noticed the big ones were jumping in areas I would need to swim or float to. My question is, does it matter if you use a float tube as suposed to a small one man raft? Oh ya and I caught a fish that looked like mix between a small mouth bass and a crappie do you know what kind it could be?

In my opinion, definitely a float tube. A tube is so much easier to fish from than a boat or even my kayak. You can hold your position with your legs while casting (impossible to do with paddles, obviously). If there's any wind you'll spend more time paddling around trying to get into position than fishing. There are lots of other reasons why I think a tube is better, but that is the main one. -Phil

I agree with Phil. A float tube is definately the way to go. I live in Modesto and have fished the resevior only once. It looked like great water but I got blanked. Its cool to know that there are fish in there to be had. Maybe I will try it again when I stop catching fish in the Delta. (as if thats gonna happen) Anyway, thanks for the post and let us know if you continue to catch fish there. I for one, am real interested in hearing how you do!!!!!!
By the way, I fished in a small club tourney this weekend in the Delta. It was a tough bite but I ended up with 4 keepers to 3lbs for 5th place. First place went to a 12lb sack. My weight was 9 and some change. I had a great time with a excellent bunch of guys. Thank you Diablo Hawg Hunters for a nice day on the water.
