#326, "June 13, 2000 Santa Margarita Lake"

Tonight Mike Shaw and I were finally able to arrange a trip to Margarita, something we'd been talking about for a while. For those of you who don't know, Mike is the maker of the MS Slammer, my very favorite bass lure. Mike has also recently been working on a new version of the slammer with a "trout tail". Well we took his 3 prototypes to the lake, cruised down to some good water and I swear it did not take 5 casts ( the first couple of which we were both commenting on how killer the plug looks) before Mike hooks up a good one on the new plug (9 inch). Mike boats the fish a solid 5 pounder! It was a beauty but the fish would have gone 6 pounds a month ago as she was spawned out. So we're already pretty stoked on the day. We worked another half hour and I hook up on a weedy point. That fish was about 2 n 3/4. After a while we went back to where Mike caught the 5 earlier and we see a striper boil, which got us totally pumped, but after throwing the plugs around the area for about 10 minutes we headed for the next spot. We were fishing along covering water and I see one come flying out at the plug. Hooota, a 3 and a half in the boat. 10 minutes later Mike is on and boats another good one, 4 pounder. We moved again after that and as it got late Mike and I are shooting the breeze and I'm pointing at this bank and saying what a good bank it is etc and while my plug is floating there I get swirled on. Whoops, missed that one. Ok back to fishing... Well Mike proceeds to nail 2 more before it's time to go, both about 2 n 3/4. It was a great evening with some great company and it was sure a kick to catch 'em on that 9 inch plug.
Oh and all you SB Bass club guys, is there any chance I can fish my boat on Saturday since there weren't enough boaters :-) I know you're reading this...

Here's the pictography of the damage
