Went on Tuseday and saw some pretty big striper comming in from boats. Might go agin on friday. I tried from the dock only little ones were caught. Looking to use something else other than bait any suggestions out there? Still looking for a good spot also. Some folks up there the dam wasnt that bad? What about Miller canyon? Anyone have any luck there? Any help would be great...Thanks

Grimm,
When you say big stripers how big are we talking about?
I've been going up there this past week and the biggest I've seen from other boats has been at about 8 pounds. All from the dam on chovies with 6 to 8 pound line. The biggest fish I saw period was a 15 pound catfish. If you call the marina they are still telling the story about everyone getting big fish over 20 pounds. This place is shady don't believe any of the reports from up there .

The best place to fish in Silverwood, I find, would have to be on the water. If you troll a big chunk of cheese, preferably Velveeta, you will have marvilous results. Fishing from the dock should be done very quietly. I noticed that in that area, they especially like a slow approach with a night crawler on a treble hook. After that, a nice white wine really satisfies them. What fish are you fishing for????? Big Dipers??????

I saw about the size your talking about plus the ones comming in from the boat have to be at least 15 or so pounds. No 20s that ive seen. I saw one guy leaving carrying one the size of his leg. This was on Tuseday. Im going to try on the docks again on friday morning when it opens 7am i think. Going to try some chovies again and I might throw some plugs out there see what happens.... Any other advice would be good. Looking to catch Big Stripers..... Thanks

Grimm,

Bait fishing from shore looks grimm... sorry, I couldn't resist ;-)

There isn't really a general "best spot". Cleghorn arm(west of the marina), Miller canyon(east of the marina) and Outhouse cove(northeast of the marina) are my favorite areas.

I don't fish with bait, so I can only repeat what I've seen & heard. Shore fishing appears to be good around the Marina using night crawlers close in for mostly small and an occasional quality LM bass and cut anchovies from the dock produces consitently for 1-3# stripers. There have also been lots of schooling trout working the surface way up in Miller canyon but it's closed except by boat due to fire hazard.

Fishing bait or lures, a boat would be a good bet. Most stripers caught from a boat with bait seem to come from the inlet (west of the dam) or the outtake (east of the marina). Fishing plugs and lures, anywhere on the lake can be good for stripers either trolling or casting to boils. Shad type cranks, Krocs, maribous, Spooks, and big trout plugs all work well. I haven't caught or seen a striper bigger than about 15lbs. at Silverwood this year. I only believe what I catch or see.

Over the last few weeks I've caught and seen caught several bass over 5# in 5-15 feet of water. I did see a guy fishing an Osprey land a bucket mouth that looked well over 10lbs. 2 weeks ago. In the coves try top water before the sun hits the water. After that I've been doing well with shad pattern cranks, jerk baits and weightless plastics until 10 or so. I haven't been fishing big wood much but will work it harder tomorrow. I have seen terrified trout in the shallows everywhere.

CK

If you see a guy in a blue ocean kayak rigged for fishing, cruise over and shoot the breeze.
