Amish,

Hey Congradulations on the drop shot fish. Next time your going to go to Woodridge submit a post and with any luck I will have the time to go. If so you can count me in. I've only fished it a few times. The fish where chewing each time I fished it. I wasn't expecting much but I was suprised to find that there are some bigger fish in there.

I'll try and post ahead next time. I've yet to get a good bite, though one night I had 7 or so blow-ups on the Excallibur Spook.

Bozzo, both lakes are in Irvine. Thomas Bros will be able to get you there.

Hey I was just curious,

I have never fished these lakes or even heard of anyone fishing these lakes. I live in Aliso Viejo and usually fish oso resevoir, but I am looking to fish a new lake. How do you fish these lakes, from shore, float tube, or from a boat. I have a small 10 foot foot that I fish Oso with, and I was wondering if you can put a boat in one of these lakes.

Also which lake is better the north or south lake?

Thanks for the info
Bozzo

Bozzo -

How's the fishing at Oso? Are the fish still skinny and unhealthy? Is Oso Bob still operating things?

SJ,

I fished oso this morning, It wasn't too good, basically it was too hot to stay out on the water too long. I got there at about 7:30 in the morning and hooked a fish immediately on a crankbait. It wasn't very big, but it looked healthy, a rare scene at oso. Then at about 9:00 I got the biggest fish I have caught at oso, it was about 5 pounds according to my cheap scale and put up a hell of a fight. I think I have caught a longer fish, but surprisingly this fish was fat and healthy as well. This is the first time I have fished oso in about 3 months, but I bet the majority of the fish are still skinny and weak. After the second fish it got really sunny and hot and I couldn't find any fish on my meter so I continued to work the shoreline only to miss about 5 fish, for some reason I just couldn't hook them on my plastics, I saw them take and one even took it and in one stride took the bait, jumped and spun with it and then gave me back half my worm and the hook. I was done around noon. The fish were mostly deep in the plants and cover along the shoreline, and hard to get out.

Can anyone give me any pointers on fishing oso and other southern california lakes during this time of the year, I am new to bass fishing and this is my first time fishing in the late fall and winter.

Bozzo

I've only fished Oso once and that was back in April. I had a pretty good time catching them on the drop-shot. Aaron's magic and Oxblood colors worked great for me - all along the stick ups. I've been told that any crank baits in white work well there too. I managed some on cranks back in April as well - but the drop shot set up was my hot ticket.

I noticed that the small fish seemed healthy back then... and the rest were pretty skinny and I didn't catch anything over 2 lbs.
