#7364, "Dec. 18 Silverwood"

Went up to Silverwood at about 2 to throw for the big dogs. I fished for about 2 hours around the dam area for 2 bites. I was fishing it parallel to the bank about 20 feet out when I got hit. It didnt hook up so I gave about 2 quick cranks and killed it and got hit again. This time I think I pulled it out of the fishes mouth.I am thinking of adding a trap hook. Will 50 pound test be enough or do I need some braid? That was it for the fishing. When I got back to my truck I found out my tire was almost flat. After getting the spare down I found out the lug wrench I have in my truck doesnt fit my tires. I figured it was hopeless so I asked a gentleman I had seen earlier if he had one. After looking around his trunk he discovered he didnt have his.He did give me a can of fix-a-flat. I tried to pay him but he just said merry christmas and told me to be nice to my parents.

Thanks for the report!
50 lb. should be plenty for your trailer hook. What kind of lure were you using?
Had a similar experience recently towing a friends boat & got a flat. We were saved by someone else who was broken down, but had the right tools.

That is good to hear theres still nice folks out there.I used to worry about leaving my truck in the parking lot up on the dam,but have'nt had a problem yet.Wish they would open the dam to vehicles again and maybe charge a couple bucks to pay for some security,it was nice to drive down so close, but those convenient days are gone.

I just saw a picture in the WON of a guy who caught a 39lb striper from Silverwood,he landed it off a rental boat and using 14lb test line.He said he was almost spooled, that had to be fun!I tried many times this last few months up there for that fish,oh well. It's going to be pretty cold up there for awhile and i think they stop planting trout for a couple months too.I'll be back for my 40 :-)

Thanks for the report Nick keep them coming!

"its all about the big dudes."....i couldnt of said it better myself!
DFG= very sneaky! and talk about amped, dude i was shakin the adrenaline was pumpin so hard! I was chuckin a new wood plug i been crfting/messin around with for awhile.and that one is one of my favorites.almost 11 inches in total lengthand the action on this thing is SWEET! About the light line,im all about light line but this is definitly not the time and i was wishin i had 30lb after the first! but came unprepared(left the BIGDOG stick at home)so it just had to do! I consider myself very lucky to have landed a fish of this size on what I had but it was the biggest stick i brought.I do normally fish 20lb for the bigger plugs. I got a few 7 and 9 inchers that i like to trhow on 14 lb but....its pretty NARLEY when you hang a big one!! untill next time ..........KEEP EM' BENT!!!!!!!!!!!

PHISHuntR!

P.S. by the way,how do you edit your posts! THANKS!

Twenty is what i stick with, use to use 15 but after bustin off a couple plugs i made the switch. So you make your own plugs, that is very cool i really want to start doing the same thing.I have alot of ideas i cant wait to try out. What kind of wood do you use,and what type of finish or epoxy.Ive painted some plugs and refinished them with great results with reagular old epoxy.I was out at the wood alot this season in a yellow kayak, payin dues mostly.Although i got a twenty and a fifteen on the twelve inch slammer at night. There are some pics on the slammer site my name is Billy. When they start pumpin in the bait again ill be back at her.I would really like to see that bait youve been working with, and hash over some details of making your oun stuff.Man that must make it all that much more awsome that you stuck it on your oun plug, that totally rocks bro!!!! Those big brutes really get the blood pumpin, and as long as you dont have live trout in your possesion the dfg cant do nuttin, theres alot of slackjaws up there who like to toss the candy.Only way they can hookup i geuess, wanksters!!!Peace bro and keep on keepin on...

woodchucker...actually that plug was made out of an old broken rake handle so i have no idea what kind of wood it was?!.. and as far as finish Ive been using some clear enamel paint. It dont hold up forever but i dont really mind as I really like giving em new paint jobs freqently!I have been looking into something differnt(maybe fiberglass resin?) but this is workin in the mean time...check out your pics on the slammer site.NICE!. were all those fish takin at night?on the river?and how far from the ramp were you guys hookin? no daytime bite or strickly in the dark? Ive only been to willow once i didnt get to hunt it as hard or as long as i wanted too! but it definitly a nice little bend with plenty of lunch for the DOGS!and to float down that river in the still of the night through that canyon and to hear some of the stuff that crashin is totally insain! were the fish from the wood takin from shore or yak?.about the bait, any time ! Id love to HASH over some specifics and I know what you mean about slackjaws its hard enough to even to get em to pick up the phone let alone to give you any valid info about a plant!!locals tryin to hog-block!!!
RIGHT ON!

Phishunter, nice!! Saw that in the Green Liar, all the more props you caught that pig on a bait you crafted. The fact you got it on light tackle makes it even more impressive. Way to go.
