#9769, "Mono to braid knots"

CJ @ BWW is the only person on earth who can tie a bloodknot blindfolded, spun around 30 times, and then given 15 shots of tequila! (No offense to Brian and Tsunami (The other Brian)

TSUNAMI: KEEP PRACTICING!!!!! HA HA!

It is THE knot to use when joining 2 lines, and I'm trying to perfect my technique, unsuccessfully! (I'm slowly getting better!)

I was just wondering if anyone else has a good, solid, and easy to tie knot for joining two lines. I've started to experiment with the "Uni to Uni" and the "San Diego Jam to San Diego Jam" but that requires more time and effort.

I guess I need to pull CJ away from his computer for another lesson.
(Sorry Bro!)

Let's all force CJ to tie Bimini's for Us!

Any advice or suggestions are always appreciated.

I use uni to uni. Unless you tie the blood knot totally perfectly it'll break. Uni to uni is cleaner and stronger IMO. I'd recommend that you tie a variety of knots on some spare line and tie one end off to something and pull until the connection breaks. Find out which one seems to be strongest and which one you can tie the best and go from there.

Thanks Brian!

I just need to get a clip or something (open hook eye) to start the Uni so it seats properly. Any suggestions?

It's a extremely strong knot if tied properly!

Take Care!

hmmm, I generally just pinch that loop with my finger while I wrap the tag end. Most important thing is to wet both of the knots before pulling them together, and be sure to pull on both the main lines and both the tag ends to get everything tight and snug.

I have tied the blood knot for years, using mono to mono. The uni-to-uni knot is a great dependable knot, but it takes time. The blood knot is much faster, when you get it wired, and can be just as dependable. I have had them break, but mostly on the old backing on my reel, and when that happens, I just re-tie it and actually add another wrap or two, wet it and sinch it down.

As far as a mono to braid, I use the uni-to-uni knot. The blood knot seems to slip alot with the mono to braid unless you add a few more wraps and then you end up with a huge long knot:)

Thanks CAM!

I'm more comfortable with the Uni to Uni, until CJ dials me in on the Blood Knot!(I think they call it that, because I want to draw BLOOD everytime I try to tie it!)

Thanks for the tip! I really appreciate everyone's help!

At the Hall show, I attended the Shimano "Knot tying" seminar to perfect my Uni-knot. The gentleman teaching the seminar said that a good way to start the knot is to have a "Car-Key Type" clip that you can hang off the end of your tackle box/bag and attach your hook to while tying. He was also using that clip to tie the knot!

He suggested the best knot for 2 line joining was the Uni-Uni or SD Jam to SD Jam due to their similarity.

Thanks for the tips!

I am influenced by my saltwater roots I guess but the best connection for joining mono to braid is a short bimini loop(30 twist) in the braid with an albright knot joining the mono to the braided loop. This is the defacto connection with larger pound tests but would probably be a little bulky if it is part of your casting length...

Ah Rod, I'll show you again. But what's this 15 shots of tequila? I'll do it after a 12 pack of MGD, but only if you're buying.LOL

OF COURSE I'LL BUY!

Sorry I'm such a nucklehead when it comes to that darn knot.

I guess I'm good practice for your son as far as teaching goes.

"First, take the line and make a BIG LOOP" ha ha!

Thanks Pal!

Hi Guys!

Interesting thread!

I generally go with uni to uni.

You may want to check out this link as well for directions on how to tie the "Alberto" (modified Albright) Knot:
