I'm an compulsive fresh/salt fisherman that just moved up to the San Luis Obispo area. I've been wanting to get into surf fishing for a long time. Does anyone have in information on some of the best places to surf fish from San Luis Obispo northward. I'm also looking for some info on good rigs and bait to use for this area. Thanks

Your in the right place. Welcome! Some of the regulars around here are guaranteed to be of help in that locale. as for techniques, you might do searches of this sight of the following buzz words; Surf perch, Halibut, flatties, Fish Traps, Fast Track, Blams Whams, swimbaits, Rat traps, Bass(Calico, Sand, & White Sea), Leopard Sharks,....etc. There is a wealth of info on this site.
After you've looked through the info and have some specific questions post back and we'll give you the low down.

Tight lines,
Wade

I now mostly kayak fish and fish local ponds in the Paso area, but I used to just slam the perch (limits in an hour or two) at certain places north of San Simeon. Steep beaches around the first motel north of san simeon were awesome for rubberlips and calico perch in the spring. Look for places where the seaweed collects in the surf, and tip #4 hooks with bits of shrimp or the sand fleas (not sand crabs)that you dig out from under kelp half buried on the beach- its fun and productive!!! Good luck
