#6434, "Skunked At Aliso Beach!?"

Woke up at 5:30am this morning, so I decided to beat the weekend crowds to Salt Creek. Unfortunately, kelp was everywhere so I made bait (even sandcrabs were hard to find today...mostly big hardshell), and tried Plan B at Aliso Beach in Laguna. Fished from 6:30 to 8:30am...minimal kelp, but some surf and surge. Mostly fished the north end of the beach. Got some nibbles on perch which chopped the big crabs in half, and missed one good strike (felt like a large perch)...only saw one wimpy corbina the whole morning!? There were a few guys surffishing with handlines from the beach (very interesting) that didn't get anything either. Don't know if the low tide was the reason for the bad rewults, but I ended up with the dreaded skunk (didn't even hook a dink pesky perch!?)...this is the first time this has happened in a long time!? Oh well, it was a nice morning there...that is why they call it fishing and not catching!

You'll get em next time! What they need to do is build a pier at Aliso, now that the old one is gone.

Seems like the story of my life this past few weeks, on the bright side of things they will only be chubbier when we actually get them.

Todd,
You might want to try Victoria Beach just North of Aliso?

My buddy body surfed Vic on Saturday and saw the right kind all day long.

I surfed Strands on Saturday and the kelp was pretty thick up and down the beach. I bet Creek has the same problem with all the sheet in the water.

Saw a topless bimbo at 4pm when I was walking down to Point. Maybe she was a Euro from the Ritz?

I'm sure the parents that were watching their groms play in the surf were pretty excited about her showing her fat rack to the world???

Summer at Strands, what's not to love?

Kelly

EXCUSE THE IGNORANCE BUT WHEN YOU REFER TO STRANDS, WHERE EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN?

Is just South of Salt Creek. The public beach parking lot is on Selva and PCH. There is public access to Strands from the stairs leading down to the beach. Tough place to fish during the day in the Summer, go early or in the evening to avoid the crowds.

I guess that explains it all, for some odd reason I kept thinking you guys were referring to silver strand in Coronado, no wonder everytime I read some of these posts you guys were pulling some awesome catches compared to the quite few times recently, that I've been out there trying my luck at similar catches to no avail, the sand crabs I get for bait end up being bigger than the the fish I pull (if any)

Locals call it Strands. It's at the end of Selva, while Salt Creek is at the end of Niguel. The parking lot sign says Salt Creek parking, but this is Strands. Another landmark is the Life Guard station below the Ritz Carlton. To the south of the station is Strands. Long stairwell for access, unless you go across private property (not good, but I see many do it).

Kelly, I surfed Gravels on Saturday too...not much surf, but caught a few fun ones. Nice beach scenery too!...I'm sick of the damn kelp at Creek...have to try some new beaches with NO kelp!!!
