Hit the harbor up at around 6:30 am. Loaded up on some serious anchovies from the bait reciever. Woody says it is the best bait he has seen for the last 5 years. They stayed alive ALL morning! Which is rare for Chovies. Anyways kicked over to the pier and fished on the east side for 1 short. Thought it was gonna be one of those mornings where the fishing was going to be tough. Kicked over to the other side around 8:00 and as soon as I got to the other side immediately hooked up. First 4 fish werent over 15 inches, but then got the bite I was looking for. Got the fish up and measured at 22 on the dot. Put em back and casted to the same spot. Hooked up again and felt better then the 22. Got him up and to my surprise was also 22 on the nose. Back into the drink and continued to hit the shore line. The fish were holding SUPER close to shore and were hitting the Chovies aggressively. Had 3 more fish for the next hour and a 1/2 and the bite slowed down big time. Was fishing with another Kayaker who was having very little luck. 1 short for his whole time there. I must have landed 6-7 fish in front of this guy who was fishing live Chovies as well. He was using 25lb. test and I think that was his problem. Anyways, kicked back over to the east side of the wharf and dragged this one chovie for about 30 minutes for nothing. Right when I am thinking to myself the bite has died, I get a bump. Opened the drag and the fish started to take line out slowly. Let him run for about 10 seconds and set the hook. Fish on. Best fish all day for sure and a small crowd had gathered up on the wharf watching me fight this thing. Fought the fish for a few minutes before I could get a look. NICE FISH. Called over to the kayaker who had a net and he cruised over and handed it to me. Got the fish in the net and laughed as the crowd that had gathered were now cheering. I bet it is a pretty cool site for the tourist up there. Fish measured out at 27" and was a pretty healthy fish. I decided to keep this fish and make some nice fishnchips' for dinner.
Overall a very productive morning. Was out of the water by 11:00. Note: Almost all fish were caught on the stinger(trailer) Hook. I think it is wise almost crucial to have the trailer. Plus you dont have to wait as long for the fish to take the bait.

Great day. The fish gods must've smiled on you for turning back the other two :) Man, they can go stupid on bait on that flat on the west side of the pier sometimes. How was the tide? We got on a wide open bite on chovies one time on super low tide, fishing way out by the marker buoy, but still able to touch the bottom pretty much. Stinger hook is definitely key, you get a whole lot of raked baits fishing halibut.

The tides were perfect with the high right around 9:15 am. An hour before and an hour after were very productive. I think it topped at 4.2 if I remember so correctly and stayed on the plus at the bottom of the tide. I spoke to my buddy earlier today and he didnt fair very well today and was fishing the same area. Day to day, thats fishing. The water temp was at a cool 62 degrees so I really lucked out to catch that bite. Take it easy Brian.

Hey DB,

What was the water like on Sat.? I tubed with 2 others for 1 corbina and a huge sand shark on Sunday. There was lots of grass in the water and that made it hard to fish. Left about 8:00 and went to "da rock" at GB for 1 short.

The conditions were pretty nice. I was fishing in about 4-6 feet of water and could see straight to the bottom. There were little patches of weeds around but didnt really give me a problem until I was on my way in. Water was super flat and at one point I was fishing about 5 ft. off the shore with no break at all. Even though the water was at 62 degrees the fish were holding close to shore with the exception of the 27". I got him out by the corner of the restaurant.My buddy Chris didnt do well Sunday either. And not much luck at Goleta either huh? Guess thats fishing. I am gonna head out to Goleta today so I will let you know how it goes. If you can meet me out there by the slough. Maybe a little mono y mono sucka!! I'll be heading out at around 5:00. Talk to you later.

Bait boy!! LMFAO Well I havent tasted skunk for a few weeks. And I am always sure to catch atleast a ronkie or short to kill the funk. Was not the case yesterday! Fished from 4:30-7 at the rock for only 1 bite that I farmed. Fished the 3" Chovy and Pepper Trout for NADA. Water was very murky and alot of lettuce in the water. Almost every cast I had to shake the weeds off. Will be heading back out there tonight if the weather permits. Gotta practice for this tournie coming up in September. Your fishing it right? The BAIT fishing has been so good lately I havent been able to shoot the plastics like I used to. But that is all gonna change. I just got my package of 4 used Fastrac's from E-Bay and am going to hit up Mr. Shins for some BH's later today. You guys are in some big trouble Sept. 6th buddy! I plan on taking the whole shablangieblang and showing old farts how to fish!! Talk to you soon.
