#11556, "Mission Bay, 2-28-04"

Date: 2-28-04

Launch and Return: 7am - 12:30pm from Victoria Point

Totals: 3 short sandies, 2 short butts (to 18"), 1 illegal sculpin, and one bait sized mac

Plastics: all were caught on a new bait I'm pouring. It's got a shad head and body w/ a reeper tail. Calling it a Reepfish. Best 2 colors were a smelty looking 2 color, and a orange pearl with various flakes.

Spinnerbaits: Tried a couple, but only one bump. Used the Reepfish for a trailer.

Crankbaits: Tried 3 or 4 different baits for some shortbites, but this dark green scale pattern over light gray got me the sculpin.

Scent: Tried a new oil that is all my own. Seemed to work well.

Conditions: Slighty windy, water was clear considering the rains and about 60º. Air was about 65º

Special Comments: I must say that while I still hate Mission Bay, I don't hate it as much as I used to. Who knows, maybe I'll come to like it. Ed W. stopped by and said hi, he had to work so he didn't fish. While it was great to see him, it did remind me that I've got a lot to learn if I ever want to keep up with the like of him (and many others). Fished with Brian B. and Chris H. who both found skunks. In fact Chris couldn't even get on the clam bite we had last week. Don't know about Brian, but I think Chris figured out why he was missing all the fish he swung on.

Never-the-less it was great to fish with both of them, I hope they had as good a time as I did. It's always good to fish with friends (and talk to them on the rocks).

Areas fished: We from Victoria around to the bend leading to the harbor mouth channel, back to the bridge, around to Bahia Point (?), across to that single long dock, then we headed in.
