Launch and Return: Money Between Friends (Plastic Navy), 8-11am @ J St. in SD Bay
Totals: 1 legal spot (.82), 3 shorts
Baits: Orange flash beavertails and a very small swimbait drop-shotted, Assalt 5" Ringer Worm in smoke w/red flake T-rigged, and 3/4oz blade
Scent: Hot Sauce and Pro-Cure Chovy oil
Conditions: Breezy and cool, water about 74º+ with a low going to high, Slightly stained.
Special Comments: This was a very fun event for three reasons, #1 my son fished with me for the first time in 5 months (sadly, our meager fish placed in "Big Fish". #2 my wife and second son came for the BBQ. #3 lots of fun fishing and hanging with a lot of kicked back anglers.
Mateo and I got our "Big Fish" on a T-rigged Ringer Worm. Dragging it through the grass on the edges of drop-offs was the ticket. Got the big one and a short doing this. Dumped a drag burner and farmed a few others working this weed line. True to form, Mateo was more harm than help, in the competition side of things. But, we had a blast and he's been asking to go fishing again ever since. Before the MBF, he kept saying no when I'd ask him to go. Turns out he was afraid of falling in. He isn't now. Thanks P.N. for putting on such a fun event. ________________________________________________________________

Launch and Return: Newport USCG beach, 5:15-11am
Totals: 15+ legals (mix of spot and sand), a bunch of shorts including a micro 'but, and two ticked off sculpin.
Baits: Assalt 5" Ringer Worms and Salt Shakers (C-rigged and T-rigged). 1oz Lure Logic and 1/2oz Matsuo blades. 4.75" beavertails (dropshotted).
Scent: occasional Pro-Cure Chovy oil
Conditions: Cool (warmed a bunch after clouds broke up)and breezy (from the SE), low cloud cover (broke around 9am), water clearish and 72º, low going high (slow movement).
Special Comments: Had my first 4 legals and a short by 5:30, took the rest of the morning to pick away the rest. 3 spots were 2+lbs and all came on Salt Shakers in Amber w/red and black flake or Watermelon w/ red and black. Ringers worked well when they had some red in them. No fish on the DS. A few bumps on the blade.
Met a nice guy in a blue Pro-Ex. He was fishing live stuff mostly, he hooked what was probably a Mud Marlin (every chance it had to run for structure it went the other way). It took him on a long ride in and around some boats and docks, but after a good 15min. it broke off.
Areas fished: Ledges with eel-grass (mostly to sides of channels). Humps with eel-grass.
Amish Ed You can't catch it again if it's dead!
