I finally have a weekend free and reliable transportation, so I want to put my fins in some saltwater. Having never Kickboated South of Pt Sur I'm pretty much at a loss for where to actually drive to. I'll be driving from Bakersfield and probably could use a cheap place to pitch a tent (No, not THAT kind :+ ).
This weekend is wide open so quick info would be appreciated.

PS: One of the guys at work suggested San Simeon. Do you have any comments?

A bunch of us are planning to tube Haskell's Beach early Sunday morning (6:00 am). Do a search for the Bacara Hotel for directions.

You park in the Bacara public lot (near the tennis courts) then walk down this trail to the beach. We will most likely be fishing to the left for bass (there are these new weird looking bird perches out in the water - we will probably be near those). Otherwise we could be fishing to the right inshore for halibut.


You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today - please practice catch and release.

That seems to work for me. Any place to crash-out in a tent nearby for not too much $?

You got me there - don't know much about camping near here. I have heard the waiting list is usually pretty long to get a spot.
