#14576, "Where to fish at Goleta Beach?"

Hello everyone I am new to these forums and also to surf fishing. I have been looking to fish somewhere new other than the the 3/4 day freelance fishing and pier. I read the forums on Goleta beach and was amazed at the size and different species people were catching from the surf. So yesterday my cousin and I headed down there and gave it a try to fish for halibut or perch. We parked at the far right end and walked along the beach to I believe campus point(there is a stair case there). All we could reel in was kelp and a lot it! We then headed towards the pier and fished on the left sided at the fallen tree. We came up empty there too. We were a little disappointed knowing that people would say that they would catch 6 to 7 shorts and 1-2 legal. If anyone has any tips, suggestions, etc. on where a good fishing spot at Goleta beach that would be very helpful. We used 3 and 4 inch big hammers. Thank you.
