i was at Malaga Cove recently for a geology feild trip and noticed how much kelp was around. I was wondering how good is the fishing there from shore and when would be the best tide to fish. I walked down to Malaga Bluff, I think it was, and I saw a point out there which I think was fishable during calm conditions. My teacher did say it wasn't deep around that area. I think if i did get some helpful hints like: what plastic patterns to use, tide, leadhead ( weight ), i could probably pull some bass out of that area. By the way I got a question that is off this subject, does anybody know where i could get some moss for opaleye perch. I live in Carson, CA 90745, so anything around my area im willing to get some. I use to get moss at Shoreline Park, befor they remodeled the whole area. Not to mention it was a great place to get ghost shrimp.
Thanks in advance.

I have fished this area three times from a kayak and only did OK on one trip, the other trips sucked. The one time I did OK it was a wide open bite on short bass and I saw one seabass chase my lure. I think the majority of the fish here are short as I have only caught 3 legal bass here. But then again, its isolated so its hard to fish and Frank got a nice bass there, so they cant all be small. Not sure how it is for the perch type stuff but I saw a few small reef fish while in shallow, they looked like opaleye and sheephead.
Good Luck,
Tom Cod
